Chad Mendes Breakdown: This is a huge step up for Alex Volkanovski and on paper appears to be a bad matchup. Both fighters are well rounded and shine with their wrestling foundations. On the toes the speed and power advantage for Mendes should be evident, where he will utilize his larger variety of techniques to inflict the damaging strikes. In order to get an advantage volkanovski depends upon his wrestling top control. Mendes is the better wrestler both offensively and defensively, having never been removed in his UFC career. Volkanovski was taken down in the past by considerably lesser fighters, although he is obviously improving with experience. The durability and layoff queries are the chief reasons we are getting such excellent odds on the veteran. It appears to be an obvious pick considering he seemed on the scales in shape. This fight will be action packed and it’s Mendes with more tools to find the end or rack up control and damage to impress the judges.
